Fifty years ago today, my parents got married on a sunny July afternoon at St Basil's Catholic Church, an ornate basilica filled with beautiful statues and prayer candles.  The attendants smiled - bridesmaids in mint green taffeta, men in white tuxedos.  Pictures of my mother's side of the family include my elegant grandmother draped in the latest style, my portly grandfather with a wry smile because the tavern owner was about to throw the best party the south side had ever seen
