Thurman is a 5th Generation Attorney and his notable grandfather was Thurman Arnold, the founding partner of the Washington D.C. law firm of Arnold and Porter.
He attended Reed College in 1974/1975, where he studied Behavioral Psychology and the Humanities. He attended Univ. of Cal. at Santa Barbara 1976 to 1979.
Thurman attended the Lewis and Clark Law School 1979 to 1982. Jay Folberg, present Dean of the University of San Francisco, was his family law professor. Thurman was a staff member of Lewis and Clark's Environmental Law Journal.
He is now attending the University of Loma Linda as a part-time Master's student, gaining valuable training alongside future family therapists.
In 1982, Thurman Arnold joined his father in their small town legal practice in Palm Springs, CA., and was a litigator since 1982, but now he aspires to be a force for peacemaking. He practices collaborative law under the mentorship of Brian Don Levy, and is navigating the edges of mindful litigation.
Professional memberships include: the Riverside, San Bernardino, Orange County, Los Angeles, California, Bar Associations and the American Bar Association; AFCC; NCFR; IACP; LACFLA; Mediate.com; IAHL; NAELA; and the Family Law Section California State Bar. Thurman regularly serves as a Judge Pro Tem for the Riverside County Superior Court, in Indio, California.
Thurman has teamed up with author Ellen Kellner, "The Pro-Child Way: Parenting with an Ex," to do radio interviews to publicize mindfulness directly to parents in divorce. Ellen's work may be found here: http://www.theprochildway.com/.
