Going in circles puts students on path to better choices

Excerpt: Audubon Technology & Communication Center High School is one of 16 schools taking part in a program using principles of restorative justice. The goal is to get students on paths to make better choices, to understand the impact of what they do, to deal with people better - in other words, to learn something, to change their ways and not to just sit out classes for three days.
David Lerman: Part 2
In Part 2, David tells the story of a restorative justice conference in which the perpetrator, a young person, struck a school cafeteria worker, the human side of legal work. He talks about justice and closure and how restorative justice is more likely to bring healing and closure.
David tells how doing restorative justice is a personal blessing and enjoyment of his work. He talks about how the notion of justice as healing has become more personal for him as he's gone through his own healing of cancer.
He also poses the question of how to bring these ideas into the culture of legal education.
David Lerman: Part 4
David talks about the program between the District Attorney and Milwaukee Schools system, particularly cases involving marijuana where the school is the victim. He also talks about sitting in circle.
David Lerman: Part 3
David answers the question: "What is restorative justice?" and shares a story from a restorative circle class. David talks about how in Restorative Justice, crime is an offense against relationship, not an offense against rules.
In this segment, he also talks about his faith and his work.

A Health Celebration for David Lerman
In celebration of his recovery and NED (no evidence of disease status), restorative justice pioneer, David Lerman, will be hosting a HEALTH CELEBRATION on FEB 22nd, 4:30pm - 7:30pm in Milwaukie. Contact David for details.
This is David's second bout with cancer. He and his family recently returned from a week in Florida where he received four treatments with John Upledger, the creator of cranio-sacral work, and the author of 'Cell Talk' - the book that inspired his cell talk dance.
CuttingEdgeLaw.com interviewed David last summer and his video is still in the editing process. David is a treasure to our movement and, even though we can't all be there in person, many of us will be celebrating his good health wherever we are on that day.
