Bruce Peck was one of the early adopters of collaborative law in Minneapolis. His last trial was in 1993. In this video, we meet Bruce and learn a bit about a new project being explored in Minneapolis: using collaborative lawyers in marriage reconciliation. He talks about reconciliation as healing and refers to Truth and Reconciliation and restorative justice as related approaches.

There is no magic formula for reconciliation; each reconciliation process needs to be designed according to a specific context. In Liberia, what we need is not a reconciliation process that is achieved through retributive justice as recommended by the TRC’s report; but restorative justice as the people themselves have started implementing through their votes.

Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai calls for truth and reconciliation commission
Excerpt: HARARE – Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai has called for a truth and reconciliation commission to probe cases of human rights abuses dating as far back as the pre-independence era and touching on the highly emotive Gukurahundi massacres which claimed more than 20 000 lives.
Tsvangirai reiterated the stance by his Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) that perpetrators of the 2008 political violence had to be brought to book and that the truth about those who were behind the deadly attacks that cost the lives of more than 200 people last year.
