After Jumping Ship
There are many lawyers who revel in the fine-tuning of documents. They are amazed at the placement of commas. They can speak for long periods of time about sentence structure and word choice. I am not one of them. Don't take me wrong. I love drafting. I booked Legal Drafting in law school. I even like to edit. I like to have precision in my language and I can understand wanting a high level of precision in a uniform law. But as a spectator sport? How much of this can one take?
The answer to that question was, for me, only until lunch. I left the UCLA proceedings fully intending to return after lunch. I really did. But I had run into Nancy Cameron in the hall. She told me that after the fine-tuning, it was unlikely that the UCLA would be officially passed today, that it would probably be a few days away. So when I saw perishables on sale in Trader Joe's, I knew that I was on my way home.
Before lunch, I did also meet Gretchen Walther from Albuquerque. Gretchen M. Walther is Past Chair of the New Mexico Family Law Section and president of the New Mexico Collaborative Law Group. She is the former chair of the State Bar of New Mexico Family Law Section and a member of the UCLA committee.
I'm sure I missed some important folks. I just want them to know it wasn't intentional! There were a lot of people in a big room. One speaker suggested he needed binoculars to see the back of the room!
